Don’t get caught in a Bad Hotel on the tune of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance

For months the union representing several thousand hotel workers has been sparring with the owners of San Francisco's top business and tourist destinations in a contract dispute revovling around health insurance costs. A Chronicle story in March noted business community claims that a union-sponsored boycott of selected hotels was hurting one of the city's top industries.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) activists recently put their own spin on the issue by staging a music video in the lobby of the Westin St, Francis, urging those visiting San Francisco for Gay Pride month in June to avoid the union-boycotted venues. The Brass Liberation Orchestra laid down the music in a takeoff on the Lady Gaga song, "Bad Romance." The 40-person song-and-dance routine was made into a YouTube video that has logged over 100,000 views. Jane Martin of San Francisco Pride at Work, an LGBTQ group affiliated with the labor movement, said the spoof was cooked up over a month's time and rehearsed just once before activists briefly took over the Westin lobby.
